Tae focuses his practice on commercial litigation and disputes, while also serving in an outside general counsel role for businesses from a wide range of industries. This dual courtroom and boardroom experience, and the perspectives and insights gained in each arena, complement and reinforce each other. Tae’s litigation approaches are informed by his appreciation of his clients’ immediate and big-picture business pressures and priorities, while his corporate and transactional counsel always incorporates risk mitigation and avoidance considerations.
As an advocate, Tae brings a wealth of diverse and extensive first-chair trial, appellate and alternative dispute resolution experience to his representation. He has amassed an impressive record of favorable results in state and federal courts as well as before administrative tribunals in cases involving a broad spectrum of commercial, transactional, banking, securities, trusts and estates, real estate and labor matters. While Tae is fiercely committed to “winning” his cases, he recognizes that the word can mean different things in different circumstances for different clients. That is why he always tailors his litigation strategies to each client’s unique situation, goals and risk tolerance.
But it isn’t just Tae’s advocacy skills that make him such a formidable litigator, and it isn’t only his keen business sense that makes him such a trusted advisor. Tae credits his time working as a sushi chef and line cook at several high-end restaurants during and after college to when he developed a deeply ingrained appreciation of the importance of preparation, collaboration, clear and responsive communication, organization, time management, adaptability, poise under pressure, and precise execution – all qualities that are equally essential for effectiveness as an attorney.
Tae has been recognized by his peers for his talent and successes, including being named a Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2024. He is an active member of several legal and professional organizations, including the Asian American Bar Association, in which he is a board member, and the Korean American Bar Association. Tae focuses on mentoring law students and young attorneys for both organizations as well as his alma mater, Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
Tae is a lover of good food and wine. He enjoys traveling to wineries and his life-goal is to visit every wine-producing region around the world. In his free time, Tae likes to play basketball, golf, cook and to spend quality time with people over a good meal and good conversation whenever he can.
