On Thursday, Nov. 7, Chuhak & Tecson, P.C. principal David Shiner presented on IRS Collection Procedures to the Independent Accountants Association of Illinois (IAAI). Shiner discussed tax liens and levies and how to defend against them through collection due process hearings, collection appeal requests, installment agreements and offers in compromise.
Leader of the firm’s Tax and Employee Benefits practice group, Shiner works closely with his clients resolving tax controversies and structuring transactions that minimize exposure to state and federal estate taxes. Shiner is also a certified public accountant with a master of laws in taxation. He is highly experienced with handling cases in the U.S. Tax Court in gift, estate and income tax matters.
IAAI was established in 1949 and is the Illinois State Affiliate Organization of the National Society of Accountants. In this age of specialization, IAAI continues to fill an important niche, providing education and information to its members who serve small businesses and individuals. Through interaction at local chapter meeting, seminars and state meetings, members are in a position to alert clients about important tax law changes and changes in business practices that affect their business and financial activities.

When litigation is unavoidable, Freud represents his clients with determination in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate levels. Financial institutions, title insurance companies and their insureds, business and commercial real estate owners, not for profit entities and individuals turn to Freud to manage all aspects of the litigation process—from strategy formation, motion practice and discovery through trial. And he never loses sight of the value of settlement.
Financial institutions rely on Freud to enforce their rights and remedies as secured and unsecured creditors in foreclosure actions, UCC sales, fraudulent transfer suits and in Chapter 7, 11 and 13 bankruptcy proceedings. He also defends them against lender liability claims and other commercial disputes brought by depositors and third parties. For businesses, not for profits and individuals, Freud handles breach of contract cases, business torts, restrictive covenants, partnership disputes and other matters. Title insurance companies and their insureds depend on him to resolve title defect, easement and other real estate matters. Brandon also has extensive experience handling landlord-tenant disputes as well as mechanics lien cases.

Previously at a litigation boutique, Freud earned his Juris Doctor degree with honors from Chicago-Kent College of Law. He then served as an Assistant State’s Attorney in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office where he first-chaired dozens of trials and handled more than 30 appeals.
On Sept. 22, attorneys, paralegals and staff will participate in GiGi’s Playhouse Tinley Park 5k Donut Run. Headed by principal Kimberly Boike, Chuhak & Tecson, P.C. employees will run, walk and dash to support GiGi’s Playhouse, the only nationwide network of Down syndrome achievement centers.
GiGi’s Playhouse, whose mission is to change the way the world views Down syndrome and send a global message of acceptance for all, provides free, life-changing therapeutic, educational and career training programs for 30,000+ individuals of all ages. With the support of the sponsors, runners, walkers and dashers of the 5k Donut Run, the organization is able to raise funds for its programs and raise awareness and acceptance in many communities nationwide.
GiGi’s Playhouse Tinley Park 5k Donut Run is part of Women Helping Women’s 10 Ways to Give Back, a year-long celebration of WHW’s 10th anniversary.The 5k Donut Run is the eighth of the 10 events.

On Sept. 12, Chuhak & Tecson, P.C. attorneys will sprint for justice during Chicago Volunteer Legal Services’ (CVLS) 25th anniversary of Race Judicata.
A 5K run/walk, Race Judicata furthers CVLS’ mission of coordinating, supporting and promoting the voluntary pro bono legal representation of the Chicago area’s poor and working poor. Proceeds raised for Race Judicata go to CVLS’ general operating costs.

On August 21, 2019, Chuhak & Tecson, P.C. will hold a fundraiser titled Coats n’ Cones to benefit Jewish United Fund’s (JUF) Chanukah Coat Club.
JUF’s Chanukah Coat Club is an initiative that leverages key partnerships with Jewish Child and Family Services Chicago, The ARK, the Dina and Eli Field EZRA Multi-Service Center, and the Chicago Chesed Fund in order to provide needy children and families of all faiths with the winter wear they need to stay warm during the harsh Chicago winter. Donations supply local children and families with new coats and winter accessories for the year to come.
During Chuhak & Tecson’s Coats n’ Cones day, employees will be able to wear summer clothes to the office and enjoy frozen treats. Employees may choose to make donations in honor of someone special in their life, who will receive a personalized Chanukah card announcing their gift. Donations gathered will go to JUF’s Chanukah Coat Club.

Chuhak & Tecson, P.C. will once again support Volunteers of America of Illinois’ (VOA of IL) annual drive Operation Backpack by collecting school supplies and backpacks for children in foster care and children of the veterans served by VOA of IL.
Operation Backpack, which takes place from June to the beginning of August, provides thousands of school supplies to children in pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. Items range from pencils and markers, to notebooks and folders, to sketchpads, to water color paints. For a complete list of needed items, click here
